Tooth Removal & Extractions
Tooth extractions and removals can be nerve racking if you’re not completely sure of the process. At Polished Dentistry, our dentists work to make sure you are educated and aware of the removal procedure so you feel more at ease.

Extraction
Tooth extraction, or “getting a tooth pulled”, is simply the removal of a tooth by a dental professional. This is a very common procedure that many of our patients have undergone.
Reasons for Extraction
There are a few reasons someone may need to get a tooth extracted.
- Gum disease called periodontitis
- To prepare for braces or orthodontic work
- A tooth that is positioned the wrong way and could cause tooth crowding issues or damage to other teeth
- An impacted tooth that cannot properly emerge through the gums
- Broken tooth that cannot be repaired
- A heavily decayed tooth

Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars located in the back of the mouth, on the top and bottom. They usually erupt through the gums during the late teenage years or the early twenties.
They are mainly removed so they do not cause problems with the other teeth. Also, if the wisdom teeth only partially erupt through the gums, they may become difficult to clean, leading to plaque accumulation problems and tooth decay. In this circumstance, you may want to remove the wisdom teeth.
Another reason to remove wisdom teeth is if they are not positioned straight and do not erupt straight. This can cause crowding issues with your other teeth.
