What is a Root Canal? And Why Do I Need It?

Root canals are narrow tunnels that run through the center of the tooth. This area of the tooth can become infected and can spread into the root canals and gums. The root canal procedure can remove the infection without having to actually remove the tooth. Symptoms of an infection can be a toothache or gum pain.

Dentist at Polished Explaining Root Canal Procedure

Root Canal Procedure

The purpose of a root canal procedure is to remove the infection from the center of the tooth to: 1) eliminate the need to have the tooth extracted and 2) prevent the infection from spreading to other areas of your mouth. During the procedure, our dentists will remove the infected tissue, clean the hard tissue, and fill the area. We offer several types of sedation to minimize your discomfort. Depending on your needs, we will either complete the treatment in our office or refer you to an Endodontist who specializes in root canal procedures.
